When Elias reached the front of the store and looked down the main pathway, he took a moment to fully catch his breath. It was well lighted here, with none of the skylights blocked out. He could see the entire length of the store; not a thing was moving. On a wall at the far end of the pathway, an emergency exit beckoned for him. All Elias had to do was get to that door and he would be free of the murderer. Then all he would have to worry about would be getting to the safety of the hydrants, which now seemed like a cakewalk compared to this.
